The Beeline Highway was completed less than 10 years ago as a 4-lane highway. In 2008, a particularly wet winter resulted in a massive landslide that closed the road for almost a week. Since that time, ADOT has been trying to stabilize the mountain.
It turns out that the landslide is hundreds of years old (its much more complicated, but this is enough for a geocache description).
To most people a landslide is a mild inconvenience, but to those of us who live in Payson, it means we're cut off from the rest of the world. Now that construction is completed (until the next rainstorm/mudslide/closure), I thought this was a great spot for a cache.
I didn't want anyone arrested for searching on the slide itself, so I picked this point down below it. The terrain wasn't right for a larger cache, so I hid a small cache.
This cache is only available from northbound highway 87. It comes up fast, so drive carefully in the right hand lane, and watch for a turnoff.
Be careful exiting/entering the highway. The traffic is often heavy, which is the reason for the terrain rating. If traffic is particularly heavy, you may want to pass this one. The cache is well within the guardrail, and you will have cover while finding it, so stay away from the highway.
