10YGC – SHS - Highbridge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

rootee2t: This one has run its course. Thanks to all who came looking. I'm sure it's there....buried under all the snow. Will clean up my geo-trash in the spring.

Geocache Description:

You’re looking for a micro cache containing a log only. BYOP (bring your own pen). Cache is NOT on the tracks or anywhere near them. It is near the bridge that goes over the tracks. This is not an easy find so be prepared to search for a little while.

This is one of several caches put out to commemorate 10 years of Geocaching.

The ‘SHS’ in the title signifies Stanchfield History Series.

When I was touring the area recently with my mother she was sharing memories of Stanchfield & Braham. One of her memories led us to this bridge, in her day affectionately called “Highbridge”. I imagine it was the one of the highest bridges around in the 30’s and 40’s. This was also the place where the local teenagers would go at midnight to watch the train go under them. It was also considered kind of a “Lover’s Lane”. Of course, back in the day it wasn’t a fancy, reinforced bridge made with steel. It was made of wood. I, for one, love progress. Don’t park on the bridge. It’s best to park on the east side of the bridge and walk the short 40 or 50 ft to the cache. Enjoy the view of the tracks.

Happy Caching!
