Situated a few miles from Downpatrick, the Ballynoe Stone Circle is
one of the Mourne area’s best kept secrets – a Bronze
Age stone circle made up of more than 50 stones, some over 6 feet
high.
The circle is reached from the main Ballynoe Road via a beautiful
sunken path - leading to an open field with incredible views
of the Mournes - a great place to have a picnic if you are
lucky enough to get good weather. The path is steep and muddy in
places and is not suitable for prams or access for the disabled;
good walking shoes are recommended.
The monument is under the care of the Environment & Heritage
Agency, so the cache is not located within the area of the circle
itself.
