Øya Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

A nice walk which if very close to the small town of Vikersund. The little island is a great place for an impromptu BBQ when you want to get away from streets and cars and feel like you are in nature.

The container is a plastic jam container (1 Liter) and may be well hidden. A little looking will be required. There is also a hint in the photos.

About the area:
The cache is hidden on the south west arm of Tyrifjord.
Tyrifjorden is Norway's fifth largest lake with an area of 137 km2, has a volume of 13 km3, is 295 meters deep at its deepest, and lies 63 meters above sea level. The Begna River discharges into Tyrifjorden at Hønefoss where the river forming the waterfall of Hønefossen.

The Old Norse form of the name was just Tyri (or Tyrvi). This uncompounded name is also the first element in the name Tyristrand. The name is derived from the word tyri n 'old/dead pine (wood)'. (Referring specially to the woods of the western side of the lake.) The last element -fjorden (the finite form of fjord) is a later addition.
