10th Anniversary Cache Traditional Cache
DewPoint52: Lilyfrog04 and I were in the area today and spent a while looking for this but couldn't find it. Since I no longer live nearby, I'm going to archive it and free up space for someone to hide a new cache.

A small lock-and-lock container near a paved path
I've gotten so much enjoyment out of geocaching over the past few years that I felt obligated to do something to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the placement of the very first cache (called a "stash" at that time) on a roadside near Portland, Oregon.
I attended the 10 Years! event (which was two days before the actual anniversary), but wanted to do something on the exact day (May 3). I stopped on the way to work to find a cache, but that still didn't feel like quite enough. Then I decided that the best way to commemorate the hiding of a cache would be to hide a cache.
On May 3, 2000, cache #1 was hidden. On May 3, 2010, this cache - #1 million and something - was hidden. At the time I was writing this description a couple hours after hiding the cache, the web site showed 1,057,398 active caches. I know some of the early cachers anticipated that geocaching would be popular, but I doubt even they thought that a decade later there would be over a million!
This cache is very near the corner of one of Cary's newest parks. It's just a few yards off a paved trail, but the cache area has thorns, poison ivy, probably ticks, and possibly snakes. There are two other nice caches in the park (which is why this one had to go in a far corner).
Parking is available on Lawrence Drive.
