This is a handy cache for folks on their way to the Covington Flats area of Joshua Tree National Park. The cache is located a short distance North of the park boundry in a camo painted military ammo can.
From the junction of Yucca Trail and La Contenta Rd. (East end of Yucca Valley), head South on the dirt road (two wheel drive passable) for 1.8 miles to a Y in the road. This Y is marked by a "Covington Flats" sign. Bear left and proceed for 1.7 miles to a junction marked by a "Joshua Tree National Park" sign. Park in the small parking spur just to the North of the junction. Walk up the dirt road that heads East from the junction and continue until the road makes a 180 degree left hairpin turn. From the uphill end of the turn head cross country up a shallow drainage to the North. Watch out for snakes, cacti and other prickly plants. Gain about 100 vertical feet in the drainage to the cache site.
