This cache is located near the site of the Old Sherman
Cemetery not far from the now abandoned Sherman townsite.
This old and lonely cemetery is located near the old town
site of Sherman, and is very close to the Ames Monument, along I-80
between Cheyenne and Laramie. Many of the people who were buried
here have moved to other cemeteries by relatives, but there is
still one remaining headstone of a baby who died in 1888. There is
also a monument erected in 1958 by The Historical Landmark
Commission of Wyoming. Sherman was built in the 1860's at the
highest point along the transcontinental railroad. There are
foundations and still some evidence of the 5 stall roundhouse and
the turntable (we didn't see that because we didn't learn about the
roundhouse until we returned home. We're going be back to check it
out!).
