Geocache Description:

You are looking for a micro cache type in the small town of Nobby, Qld.

On a caching trip through this valley we were taken to the cache Dave's Beginning and were amazed when we got there that is was The Selection for Dad n Dave. That brought us to Nobby where Steele Rudd, (his pen name), is said to have written some of his stories of Dad n Dave and On Our Selection inside the pub there. Nobby is also known as the place from where Sister Kenny came. Sister Kenny is the nurse who confounded and angered doctors in Australia with her unconventional treatments for polio sufferers. She became applauded for her work in the long run, but it was the Americans who first started to listen to her and use her treatments. Many adults in Australia, and overseas, are able to walk now following childhood polio thanks to her treatment. There is much to learn about Sister Kenny in this town too. Her adopted daughter (who is now 95) still lives in Nobby and raised funds to build a memorial building (only small) in Sister Kenny's honour. A key can be collected from the local store for those wishing to enter and visit. Rudd's Pub, in the middle of town, has a great display of Steel Rudd and Sister Kenny memorabilia which you can go and see for no cost. For those travelling around the country there is free camping available across the road from Rudd's Pub. "Toowoomba Regional Council permits you to camp here" there is a $3 per night charge if you use electricity from the pole supplied. At the moment you are allowed to stay here for 3 nights (I was told). There is a new bbq on the site now also. FTF honours go to "anddad" for this cache. Congratulations!
