Siege Weapons: Ballista Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Tom.dog: Yeah, I've known this was going to happen sometime. Wasn't sure when. What they are doing is putting in a sidewalk along this portion of the road. This cache was right up along the fence, so I am guessing that it is gone according to what Fhazzel said. I won't be in the area for a while to replace anything, so maybe later this year if they are finished with the work I will replace and reactivate this cache. It was great to see all of the positive logs flow in since 2010. Archiving.

Geocache Description:

A series of caches giving a tour of some siege weapons.

This should be an easy series with good parking near every cache. Don't cross the fence, that is private property and the cache is not over there. Please do not park in front of the green gate, directly in front of the cache is a dirt pull off. Good parking also on Bluebird Ln.

Ballista

The ballista (Latin, from Greek ßa???st?a - ballistra[1] and that from - ß???? ballo, "to throw"),[2] plural ballistae, was a weapon developed from earlier Greek weapons. It relied upon different mechanics, using two levers with torsion springs instead of a prod, the springs consisting of several loops of twisted skeins. Early versions ejected heavy darts or spherical stone projectiles of various sizes for siege warfare. It developed into a smaller sniper weapon, the Scorpio,[3] and possibly the polybolos.
