According to The Merriam - Webster Dictionary the word "abbreviation" means a shortened form of a word or phrase used for brevity especially in writing. Abbreviations are popular in many professions; whether medical, clerical, aviation, education, law enforcement, the military, etc. People in that profession know exactly what that abbreviation means.
This is the beginning of a series of abbreviations that can be found in this area of the state.
FAB&T = First Arkansas Bank and Trust is a family owned, full service financial institution headquartered in Jacksonville, Arkansas. They have 29 banking centers located throughout Central and North Central Arkansas. They also have a full service mortgage company, trust divisions, and associated investment consultants.
In 1949 a group of progressive individuals saw a need for banking services for a community that had significant growth potential. The bank opened its doors on November 5, 1949 at 109 West Main Street in Jacksonville with three employees (named Jacksonville State Bank).
In 2008 it acquired The Greers Ferry Lake State Bank, whiich allowed them to strengthen their presence in Heber Springs and the Greers Ferry Lake area, as well as adding Clinton to their market area. This acquisition brings the total number of branches to 29.
