Geocache Description:

For quite some time now I've been wanting to place a cache on this street that bears my name. My ancestors Sanford Porter and son's Nathan, Chauncy and Lyman, were some of the original settlers and clergy.

A Brief History:
Sanford Porter was born July 29th 1791. He joined the LDS Church July 1830. He had 13 children some of whom helped settle Centerville. Upon entering the Salt Lake Valley with the Pioneers he Settled in the Millcreek area.
In 1849 Sanford and his family moved to Centerville where he was the Presiding Elder over the Centerville Branch until 1852 when he became the first Bishop of the Centerville Ward. About 1858, Sanford and his sons moved across the mountains where he built a sawmill and formed the settlement of Porterville. One of his sons, Nathan Tanner Porter, stayed in Centerville and continued to aide in the development of the area.
Sanford's Centerville Home.
