Geocache Description:

This cache is a lock-n-lock container (Indian themed because of its location and the fact that half of BUCKtown’ers2010 is a direct decedent of the Cherokee Indians). This cache is big enough for small trade items. BYOP. You will need to park at the Indian Camp Normal located along a portion of Country Route 32/17 (Normal Road) in Upshur County.

The coordinates for the parking area are N 38°50.846 W 080°12.826

This is a place where tangible evidence such as spear heads, hatchets, clay pots and other trinkets, ashes from their camp fires several feet deep under the rock and even an Indian skull have been found. There is no doubt that the rock had been used as a camping place and hunting ground for the Native American people, long before the coming of the white man. Because of the regular visits by the Indians, in the 1840’s the first white settlers in the area began to call the rock “Indian Camp Rock” and naturally called the community “Indian Camp”.

Just to the left of the Indian Camp Normal is a trail. Even though the “camp rock” is the first rock that you will come to and is interesting in itself, continue on the trail down over the hill, across the small stream, (there is a bridge) and make your way up to the top of the hill where you will find the “smoke hole rock”.

We estimate that it will take approximately one hour to see both rocks and find the cache.
