Geocache Description:

In order to mine oil shale, it is necessary first to pump out the subsoil water.
Due to mining technology, the level of subsoil water is lowered below the level of oil-shale stratum. The water pumped out here is directed through outlet ditches and rivers mainly into the Gulf of Finland, but also into Lake Peipus.
Mining water is partially purified (mostly of flotaing elements) in sedimentation pools.
30 million tons of mining water runs through this sedimentary pool yearly, which makes a daily capacity of about 82 000 tonnes.
