Description from the caches original owner/placer:
Most travelers on this US highway pass through this wide spot in
the road, where a forested area separates the two directions of
travel, without noticing why the road has been split this way. You
have to look carefully while speeding by to see the huge concrete
bridge abutments, which were built around 1935 for the
Cross-Florida Bridge Canal, and now stand like some eerie monuments
to an ancient civilization.
You don't even need a GPS to find this one if you use the clue,
best approach is from the north where you can park on the grass,
and follow the well-marked and mowed trail about 1/4-mile. Near the
start of the trail is a small historical exhibit about the bridge
piers, the canal, and the Greenway which is being built along its
planned path.
This is my first placed cache, and I called it Family Dollar
because that's where all the contents came from, the box too, I
spent $10.06 and it's all NEW contents. I may have put too many
aromatic things in there, we'll see how it fares with the animals
and insects, there is a new flashlight (including batteries), some
melody pops candy, imitation Chanel No 5, scented candles (with
matches), and of course a memo book.
