Geocache Description:

Camo Pill Bottle.

The "Monkey Steps" were built in 1911 and restored in 2003. Constructed as a walkway for those who lived on the "bluff" overlooking Punxsutawney, by McGovern Construction Company in August, 1911 as one of the biggest concrete pours ever put in Punxsutawney. With 82 original steps and seven landings, the walkway offered access to North Penn Street, the downtown shops, and boarding ramps of the B.R.&P. Railway. Named the "Monkey Steps" by the residents who frequently climbed to the top of Record Avenue to the house where John Lanzendorfer, a downtown jeweler and watchmaker lived with his wife and six children and kept a pet monkey imported from Panama. The cache is placed on the section of steps from Railroad Street to Record Avenue. Please use caution when climbing the steps. No bushwacking is necessary. No night time caching and be respectful of the nearby church. Please bring your own pen or pencil.
