Geocache Description:

The Thayer Brook Trail is a 1.6 mile loop out to a rock outcropping that has the appearance and size of a whale. The WhaleBox geocache is hidden somewhere just off of the main trail.

Three-fourths of the Thayer Brook Trail is a definable, leaf covered trail that is mostly flat. There are two stretches;however, that move directly through woodland areas that do not yet have a defined path. The trees in all areas are marked with white rectangles and are pretty easy to follow. The biggest distinguishing feature of the walk is the Whale Rock which is a giant rock formation that has the appearance of a whale with fins and all. This feature is situated 2/3 of the way through the hike.
The WhaleBox geocache is a good one for children with plenty of goodies to be exchanged if they bring something to replace them with. The cache is not out in the open, but it shouldn't take too long to find. Be sure to put it back the way that you found it please.
Trailhead Location: Wilbraham Community Gardens, 700 Monson Road, Wilbraham, MA
Directions to Trailhead: From Main Street in Wilbraham, take Monson Road heading towards Monson, MA. Proceed over the mountain past Ridge Road on the left and down into the valley. Pass Hollow Road on the right and Glendale Road on the left. The entrance to the Community Gardens is just past Glendale on the left. There is a small sign at the entrance to the driveway that says "Community Garden." Make the turn and take your first right. Park as far down the dirt road that runs parallel to the Community Garden as you can. To access the trailhead on foot, walk around the back of the garden (where the garden meets the woodline) to the north east corner. There you will see a small, matted down, grassy entry path.
