Slaves climbed the steep stairway from the Ohio River to John Rankin's home. You can still experience the difficulty those slaves had in reaching the top of the hill and some measure of safety. Think about their trek as you go.
There is a short way or a long way to reach this cache. The short way is from the street below but there is no parking there.
The cache is just beside one of the narrow trails. We always have a hard time finding it ourselves, but the coordinates are pretty much right on.
The long way rates the 4 terrain. Beginning at the top of the steps from Rankin House follow the wooden stairs to their end and then stay on the crude stone/wood/earthen trail until you see the narrow trail to the left. If the weather is warm, take water.
Look for a narrow path to the east to help you reach the cache more easily.
