How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Cache is a film canister above ground level, within plain sight. Easiest rewind of the log is by squeezing the top and bottom of the spool between thumb and forefinger of one hand and rotate the can toward the film slot. BYOP

When replacing the cache, hide with sticks and leaves to hide from muggles, but will be a give-away to experienced geocachers.

You thought you were going for a mundane visit to the George Bush Presidential Library, complete with presidential accomplishments, gifts from heads of state and the obligatory 15 minute movie telling you what it's all about, and maybe a little geocache along the way. Except on special days there is a fee to tour the library, but there is much to see for free on the grounds, free parking lot, and free access to this cache.

The ghosts of history might be circling about, but a real one? Never. Surely they'd go somewhere more exciting than a college campus full of young people. Ghosts like spooky houses and creepy woods, not manicured gardens, windows, fountains, stone.

This cache is placed behind the grounds of the Presidential Library. Visit the library or stop to see a vintage movie. Maybe you are visiting to see fireworks on the Fourth of July. If it's day time, come on and wander your way back, back, back through the gardens, around the pond, on through the walking trail and find ... what?

The path from the museum to this area is only open during museum hours. Although GZ (Ground Zero, the cache location) can be accessed from a different direction or the gate bypassed, this is an indication of a request to only visit this area in daylight hours which should be honored. Note the Cemetery area has lights and cameras, so stay in the woods if there after hours.

Regardless, be sure to stop and see the Mustangs statue (see Waypoint) and piece of the Berlin Wall nearby.

When you emerge from your adventure, you can answer these questions in your log: Although a place for them, did you see dead people? Who were they? Did you know this was back here (and as you now know, I don't mean the cache)?

Field notes: Dr. Jinx headed in to plant the cache from the north west, from the open field around the surprise.Dr. Jinx does not like poison ivy and if you do not take the museum route there is lots and lots of it around. In any case, choose your approach to Ground Zero carefully. The cache is in one of the few areas that is relatively free of the evil weed. You will have to BushWhack (that is a presidential pun folks :-) a little bit. Stickerburrs on the pants cuffs are de rigeur GeoCaching fashion. Alternate owner ZZYP recommends against Dr. Jinx's route.
