This place may not be unique in terms of it's
geology. There are many areas throughout the Peninsula mountains
were you can see rocks which have been carved and sculpted over
millennia by the elements, into the shapes we see today. But unlike
many of those places, this place seems to have a serenity about it,
despite not being very far from civilisation. Within a meter of the
cache is a convenient flat "seat" atop one of the massive sculpted
rocks, were you can sit and enjoy the surroundings. I found myself
sitting here for ages, contemplating Life, the Universe and
Everything. It can be particularly nice in the late afternoon with
the sun setting in front of you.
To reach the cache, you have a choice of two starting points,
roughly the same distance by foot.
Park at S34° 10.877 E018° 24.434, just off the
jeep track so as not to block access. Head up the jeep track a
short way to the trailhead at S34° 10.900 E018° 24.335. Continue
along this path, bearing right at the junction, until you reach
S34° 10.779 E018° 23.486. At this point, you'll head off the path
and up a short rock scramble heading in the general direction of
S34° 10.755 E018° 23.518 at the top of the scramble. Once at the
top, make your way through the sculpted rocks in the direction of
the cache. Along the way you might see "Big Nose", "The Little
Arch", "Garden Grotto", "Petrified Ant Hill" and "Mushroom Rock".
Or, you might see something completely different.
The alternate route is to park at the Kleinplaas
Dam trailhead, S34° 10.397 E018° 24.074. Walk up the winding jeep
track and just before you reach the dam, turn South along the cycle
track in the direction of the turn off to the rock scramble.
