In the early 1900’s Dr. Linda Hazzard moved to Olalla and built a state of the art sanitarium. Her treatment for everything, including cancer? Fasting. Thus the area was dubbed “Starvation Heights” by the locals. It is claimed that Dr. Hazzard starved her patients to death. She was sent to trial in the Kitsap Co. Court system, but was acquitted of all counts of murder. I was going to name this cache “Starvation Heights,” but upon placing it, found it to be a common place, used by all.
The cache container is a green ammo-box. It’s got just a few trinkets in it as well as a log book. This area was shown to my as a kid by an old-timer of the area. I know this spot isn’t well known, so I would like to share it. In the late 1990’s vandals took to destroy the area. Recently there are folks up there rehabilitating it (The boy scouts, perhaps?). The rebar with orange tops mark the unmarked. Please be gentle with this area and enjoy, as I have. Congrats to Mama&Cubs on your First FTF! UPDATE: 9-4-2010; Original container has been stolen. New container is a large pill bottle, with some camo. Still in same spot. Please e-mail me if you have no luck. Good Luck! UPDATE: June 24, 2019: After a quick trip today to Gig Harbor/Olalla I made a run to this spot to make eyes with the cache. I love this Geo-Community because what was once an ammo container was replaced by a large pill bottle. That has since been stolen (unbeknownst to me) and someone out there in the Geo-World replaced the container FOR ME. Thank you, whoever you are. It is all intact and looking good and in what looks to be an old Sunny-D bottle. ALSO, funny little story: One of the markers up there has my dad's First. Middle initial. Last name on it but First/Last are spelled with 'K's instead of 'C's and predates my dad by about 100 years. I always chuckle when I visit the "other". Cache on.
