Geocache Description:

To find this jeek you will have to hike to the top of the ridge overlooking The Gorge, I-15, and the Virgin River.

The “Eye” which is an arch, or hole through the ridge, was made by erosion caused by wind and water. If you look up to the top of the ridge, you can see right through it as you are driving on I-15 starting from about 1 mile west of the recommended parking area at N36 58.415 W113 42.630.

I ascended to the top of the ridge from the west, hiking directly up the main buttress using some hands and climbing skills to negotiate over some steep areas and large slickrock.

Once I got to the top of the first mesa there was a well beaten path that I was sure must be the best route which I missed but would take during my descent.

After reaching the top and admiring the incredibly awesome views in all directions, and climbing around near the “Eye”, I headed down, hopeful that the path down would be much better than the one I chose to go up.

You will probably have better luck than I did finding the best route down, but what I saw was a trail that petered out, so I opted to descend on the east side anyways mostly for a change in scenery. The scenery was great and very different from the west side, but the descent still took some hand holds, a bit of butt sliding, and some cautious re-routing.

It just wouldn’t be as much of an adventure if there weren’t any unknowns.

Sorry I don’t have the panacea trail to suggest to you but I hope you will be as happy with your adventure as I was with mine.

PS I would like to thank Mojave Rattler for letting me win this cache container and all its contents and schwagg at his event in St. George on April 7, 2010.
