Geocache Description:

It looks like a 2-story-high pepper mill!

It's really a "#8 Mccully Gyratory Rock Crusher" used by a mining company about a hundred years ago. It's surprising to find something like this so far out in a wooded area.
Note: The last 20 feet is a fairly steep, slippery climb. If you go during the warm months, look out for poison ivy. There's a good place to park noted in the waypoint below, although you can get to it from the other side of the mountain if you're up for a longer but more scenic hike.

This cache is located in the Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve- one of Birmingham's best-kept secrets!

Congratulations to Bigpoppamj and ashmccloud who were together when they found it for the first time!!

This cache is placed with permission of Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve Management.

Note: if you go up to the crusher, make sure to check out the other structure about 50 feet to the East!
