Since the cart tracks of the mining days, controversy has always been generated when new roadways are proposed. In this case there was a long drawn out battle to secure funding as well as local issues as to where it should actually go, which resulted in a strong division of loyalities in the adjacent community. For us the view from GZ conjures up the possibility of major controversy in the future – The Freeway to Franklin!
Since the placement of this cache at the old viewing area, the gate giving access to what was a public viewing area during the freeway construction, has been locked. If you stand on the structure adjacent to where the cache is now located you will still be able to view "The Freeway To Franklin".
UPDATE: 19 Feb 2022 - Tree growth has now removed the actual vista to Mt Franklin.
