The Lost House Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

rogpol: The recent hazard reduction exercise and corresponding clearing has resulted in the exposure of further pockets of asbestos around GZ, so this cache is now archived.
I may return a cache at the house footings once the cleanup has been carried out.
Yellow warning tape has been placed around the areas of note.
In the meantime ... and just down the road ......

Geocache Description:

An ammo box in a remnant bushland pocket hidden in the footings of a demolished house which would have had great views during the timber-getting days of the district. (Now you can't see the views for the trees!!!)

Until about 5 years ago this pocket of bushland was the haunt of the local bush trail bike riders. They have since grown up and left, and the bush is growing back with only a few indications of their presence remaining.

While researching a nearby cache I found a picture of this hill which was almost stripped bare of flora in the late 1960's.
Recent cachers who have worked in or work with the Public Service believe that the footings of the "house" resemble those used on a portable government office. That's about as much info as I have.

I found this site while walking my dogs but beware of ticks and snakes.

At the time of placing the cache the tracks were not well marked as the bush is reclaiming them.

The trees had my GPS at about 5 metres on placement however once you are at GZ it should be a quick find.

Please replace the camo and trade fairly with this cache. I had a scavenge through my garage and came up with some good value swaps.
