Where's ERNIE? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Slugsie: When I originally placed the log the gate house adjacent wasn't in use. However since the redevelopment the gate is being used, so I don't think it's appropriate to have a cache here at this time. It may be possible to relocate nearby, but for now I'm going to archive this cache.

Thanks to everyone who logged.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a magnetic nano, and is completely accessible from the road. Stealth will be required during working hours.

Bring a pencil, and when signing the log please take into consideration the size of the log. It's very small, so you need to keep your signature small. The first logbook took nearly 60 names, the second took less than 20!

The machine known as ERNIE (or Electronic Random Number Indicator Equipment) that draws the numbers for Premium Bonds winners was located here in Lytham St Annes from it's start in June 1957. Although ERNIE 1 and 2 are long gone now, the site is still often referred to locally as the Pre-Bonds site.

Until recently the Lytham St Annes site was a very important IT location within the Department for Work and Pensions. It is now used by Hewlett Packard.

Please replace the cache container exactly where you found it. Thanks
