This cache is our First and is a tupperware sandwich box with
enough room for quite a few small swaps and several travel bugs!

This cache is placed on a lovely walk through Llantrisant Forest
(Mynydd Garthmaelwg). A perfect place for an afternoon stroll with
a picnic spot near the cache site. (There are no bins so Please
take all Litter Home with you). There are good car parking
facilities on the main road through the forestry.
There is a small yet perfectly formed FTF Certificate awaiting the
first lucky geocacher! :)
Please replace the cache very carefully ready for the next
visitor.
This location boasts Beautiful Views down to the Vale of Glamorgan
and beyond and the walk can be done as a round trip of
approximately 3 miles.
Where does it start? At Forestry Commission Car Park for
Llantrisant Forest (ST 024847)
Which map should I take? O.S. Explorer 166.
On the Walk
Garthmaelwg – Bronze Age Tumulii. Used in the Dark Ages as
beacons to warn of invaders. Situated alongside the Ridgeway Walk,
the site commands extensive views over the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Stinking Well (Ffynnon Ddrewi) – A shallow pool at a
joining of three paths.The name comes from the hydrogen sulphide
smell that often originates from this pool. It was traditionally a
healing well.
The Taff Ely Ridgeway Walk is a 21 mile walk that follows a line of
hills running from Mynydd Maendy in the West to Caerphilly Common
in the East. This walk follows the Ridgeway walk between points 2
and 4
NOTE!.
As This Cache is on Forestry Commission Land Please Follow these
Guidelines.
* Only items that would be deemed safe and acceptable for an
unaccompanied child to find should be placed in the cache.
* No items of food or drink of any kind should be placed in the
cache.
* No lighters, matches or flammable objects should be placed in the
cache.
* Fences & walls should never be damaged when placing or
seeking a cache, and should be crossed by a gate or stile.
* When leaving the cache site, after finding or hiding a cache,
there must be no visual sign of disturbance.
* All Forestry Commission Byelaws must be obeyed.
* Forestry Operations can be dangerous, and caches should be
temporarily closed on request where operations will create a hazard
to cachers. The local area manager / recreation ranger will advise
on the period of closure, and potential alternative cache locations
if appropriate. All warning signs must be obeyed..
