This cache was originally placed as part of a geocaching taster
event during Rutland Walking Week. It is a straghtforward walk from
either Whitwell or Sykes Lane car parks (£3 parking charge for a
car but transferrable between all the Anglian Water Car parks).
Free parking is available in Empingham village from which there is
a public footpath.
There are good views across Whitwell Creek (hence the cache
name) and there is often a wide variety of boat type activities to
watch. There are a range of other activities available at Whitwell
including cycle hire, climbing wall, boat trips and sailing. There
is a cafe open at weekends in summer.
Watch out for nettles - this is not a cache for shorts or
sandals! Following some of the recent logs, we would like to
emphasis that there are killer nettles specially bred in Rutland!
Best dress for this cache includes strong boots, jeans, long shirt
or coat, gardening gloves and a scarf to cover any remaining areas
of exposed skin. Suitable equipment might include a scythe. Of
course you could just do the cache in the winter.
Since all the local FTF specialists helped place this cache, it
should provide an opportunity for others to find it first!
