This cache is placed in a small plastic clip and lock container and is placed alongside a public footpath and just off a mountain bike trail .The shortest and most direct access is from the Nant y Moch mountain road from Ponterwyd to Talybont. Parking is available close to the start of the footpath. It is a simple cache containing a log book, pencil and sharpener. There would be space for Geocoins and small TB's.
This a series of small caches placed in the area around Bontgoch a small village above Bow Street and Penrhyncoch. The explanation of the series title for non Welsh speakers is " Boxes in Cols " i.e the caches hidden at the geographic feature known as a col, or bwlch in Welsh. A col is a gap in a ridge which often but not always represents the crossing point from the head of one valley to another. On the map they often stand out as the flat area with no contours with contours converging from the surrounding hills and valleys. Excellent views can be had from most of these cols. All of these caches could also be done whilst doing the Syfydrin Trail(see Forestry Commission Wales Website) a long distance mountain bike route which also passes all 6 of the caches in this series.If doing this cache whilst on the cycle trail it would better to go past the cache and approach from above, that is from the north. If you enjoy very long walks all six of the caches could be done on a circular walk on public footpaths and lanes. Care should be taken whilst driving on the narrow single track roads that give access to these caches. Some of the roads are gated so please close them afterwards. You will also need to be comfortable reversing on narrow twisty roads with few passing places. For the caches that can only be reached on foot please ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear and that you are happy navigating with map and compass as mist and cloud can quickly cover these hills.
