Geocache Description:

The former nano container is gone, and it has been replaced with a camouflaged pill container. It's also been relocated about fifty feet west of the original location.

Only a log inside - bring your own pen. You do not need to go past the chain link fence. Please use care in retrieving and re-placing the cache.

The humble block buildings to the north of the cache are currently used by the city as Parks and Recreation offices, but they have an interesting history as part of Nike Missile Site #N-36. Part of the Army Air Defense Artillery, Nike-Ajax and Nike-Hercules missiles were placed around the country during the Cold War to defend strategic industrial and defense locations against enemy aircraft and missiles.

Leftover traces of the approximately 300 Nike missile bases can still be seen around cities across the country. As the sites were decommissioned they were first offered to Federal agencies. Many were already located on Army National Guard bases who continued to use the property. Others were offered to state and local governments while others were sold to school districts. The left-overs were offered to private individuals. Thus, many Nike sites are now municipal yards, communications and FAA facilities (the IFC areas), probation camps, and several were completely obliterated and turned into parks. Some are now private residences.
