Geocache Description:

The Pacific Treefrog is a native here and this cache is just up the hill from several seasonal ponds where the frogs breed and hangout.

We discovered this area by accident one day when were hiking up from the Alvarado parking area, and our then 4 year olds wanted to go all the way up to the water towers. This was in March after lots of rain, and we discovered several small "ponds" and muddy areas -- there were so many frogs hopping around we literally had to watch out to avoid stepping on them and the ponds were loaded with tadpoles. We visited again this past weekend (beginning of May) and although the ponds have much less water, there are still loads of tadpoles. We also discovered lots of tiny frogs this time, less than a half inch in length!

These are a native species of frogs. Please enjoy this natural wonder while you are in the area. The cache is a small camo'd peanut butter jar a bit away from the trails, with, at least initially, small plastic frogs and frog tattoos inside (and a log and a pen).
