La pieve sorse nel XII secolo sulle rovine di una precedente, già
ricordata nel 934. La struttura a tre navate si presenta con
paramento in pietra verrucana. La facciata è articolata da lesene
in tre parti con tre portali, di cui quello centrale sormontato da
lunetta, e archi ciechi a tutto sesto includenti losanghe e oculi.
Nel registro superiore si apre una bifora, mentre lo spiovente è
decorato da archetti pensiÌi retti da mensoline figurate. Il
campanile è del 1775.
Un bassorilievo nella facciata rappresenta la Decollazione di
San Giovanni Battista. Le tre navate sono divise da colonne con
capitelli romani di spoglio.
Il ciclo di affreschi del XIII secolo con Storie
cristologiche faceva da sfondo al gruppo ligneo della
Deposizione della Croce (primi del Duecento).

It was built on the ruins of a pre-existing parish aiready known in
934 and constructed with rough blocks of Verrucano stone. The
facade is divided in three parts by pilaster strips and blind round
arches with lozenges and 'oculi'. On the upper part is a mullioned
window. The central portal is surmounted by a lunette. The slope is
adorned by hanging arches supported by little figured corbels. The
bell tower was built in 1775.
On the facade a basrelief represents the Decollation of Saint
John the baptist. The inside, with nave and two aisles, is
divided by columns with roman capitals.
Worth mentioning are the frescoes of the 13th century illustrating
Scenes from the life of Christ and the wooden statue of the
Deposition from the Cross (beginning of the 13th
century).
