Geocache Description:

A cache located near the abandoned Normandy Copper Processing Plant. The gold from the mine was processed at Warrego about 20km further along the road.

The plant was first established in 1986 to process the ore from the nearby White Devil Mine.

This mine eventually produced some 761,000 ounces of gold processed from 1,618,000 tonnes of ore.

The plant was eventually shut down in 1999. The decision was then taken to dispose of the plant, and following an auction the plant was largely removed. There were a couple of large items left on the site which are still there.

The name of the cache indicates the most obvious item and is visible for many kilometres in every direction.

The cache is located in a very obvious place, but getting there is not so straightforward. During the dry season a 2WD can get you pretty close to the spot, though this is not advised in the wet season, when 4WD would be desirable, or else a walk for some hundreds of metres would be required.

Care must be taken when accessing the cache and its immediate area is the home to some reasonably unfriendly local inhabitants (Snakes & Spiders) and since a large specimen was spotted when the cache was set out, caution is advised.

As always be safe and take care when caching and enjoy your visit to this site with recent history.

While in the area there are a number of declared fossicking sites that are worth the visit. You never know, you could still get lucky?

Local cachers "The Mavericks" have agreed to maintain this cache once they locate it.
