McGregor Coal Camp 1915-1929 Mc Neil Coal Co.
Said to be most modern CO coal camp of its day. Miners' houses were on bottom land. House on hill was Supt's house. Coal was selling for $3.75 a ton, average miner earned $5.00 a day. Original river bridge was built for $3000, an unbelieveable cost in 1915. 1917 (WWI) each miner was given a plot of land and expected to grow a garden to help with the USA's food shortage. RR had a spur running to the tipple. Power plant provided each house with elec. and sent power into the Yampa Valley system until 1965. In 1946, the last of the miners' houses was moved into Hayden.
