Letha House Park is located in scenic Chatham
Township. The Letha House Foundation was instrumental in providing
funding for the acquisition of the land to create this park. On the
east side, it is crossed by a winding stream which is a tributary
of the Black River known locally as Little Sweetly Creek. An
observatory is located on the west side and is operated by the
Cuyahoga Astronomical Association. The dark skies of Letha House
Park provide excellent conditions for viewing the heavens in all
seasons. Watch for announcements of public viewing programs at this
site. Another building near the observatory has been recently
renovated and is available for reservation. The lake is stocked for
fishing and is catch and release only.
A one mile round-trip hike will be required to get this cache.
Begin from the west entrance parking lot located on Richman Rd.
(see coordinates below) and use your GPS or the poem below to get
you from there to the cache.
Letha was a giver, a philanthropist.
She made a bequest, now we enjoy this.
Places for hiking, horseback riding, too,
Did you know the Buckeye trail also passes through?
You can rent a shelter, bring a picnic
lunch;
Room for a few, room for a bunch.
Now start your quest in the west parking lot,
You may need your boots or a hat if it's hot.
Walk between the lakes, pass the Nature Trail
sign,
Cross the open field, leave the gravel behind.
Straight at the arrows, up a little grade,
Turn right into the woods; in the summer, there'll be shade.
Follow the path in and out of the field,
The site of the hide will soon be revealed.
Back in the trees, cross two bridges, they are small;
Look on the left, arching tree, not too tall.
Walk up the grade, 80 paces thereabout.
Keep a lookout on the right. Fallen tree, give a shout!
The cache, a small lock-n-lock container, is located within 30
feet from the trail, so please do not bushwhack. Please remember to
cache in and trash out. Park closes at dark.
This cache will expire on October 31,
2010.
If you have questions or concerns about any of
the caches in this challenge, please contact Shelley at
