Set in Abergavenny, this muticache leads you round the town centre to see some things which are often missed. The route is mostly on hard surfaces and pavements and one lawn! The final cache is a small plastic box with log book, pen and small swaps. The coordinates above are for the starting point and the first clue.
The final cache location is open 9am-4pm winter, 9am-8pm summer. Although dogs and bikes are allowed along the main route - unfortunately neither are allowed at the final cache site (however, it is not too far away if someone makes the sacrifice and waits outside!)
Abergavenny is now marketed as the “Gateway to Wales”, hence the name of the cache! The town has grown around the castle which dates from the 11th century. Before that a roman fort stood on the site. The town has plenty of history and the museum at Abergavenny Castle is definitely worth a visit. There is plenty of information about the town at www.abergavennymuseum.co.uk (related web page link - top of page) which also has links to some interesting local history sites too.
There are plenty of places to park in the town centre, all more-or-less equally close to the starting point. To find the final cache location you will need to answer several questions, and we have also included some extra waypoints to keep you on track, as well as point out some additional interesting points. Most, (but not all) of the clues are located on round blue plaques on building walls. To solve the clues, you will need to number the letters of the alphabet 1-26 (a-z) and convert the letters as required.
PS: On your visit to Abergavenny, keep your eyes open for a four legged geocoin - for more information look at Traka-Staffy-Bulldog-Cross (TB3K3AJ)!
