Geocache Description:

The oldest living member of the Shakespearean Society of Wagga Wagga is 102 and still reading Shakespeare daily. She is also the oldest member alive in the world today and still resides in Wagga.Funds provided by the Shakespearean Society helped develope "The Shakespearean Garden" at a secluded, almost hidden location ,within Wagga Wagga very few stumble across.

Located within one of Wagga Wagga's best tourist attractions of the Botanic Gardens is a garden designed with stylish line characteristics of the Elizabethan period. The small formal beds are planted and trimmed to what is known as a Knott Garden. Most Elizabethan Gardens were enclosed, as is this one,and were an extension of the herb garden . The English language owes a great debt to Shakespeare. He invented over 1700 of our common words by changing nouns into verbs , changing verbs into adjectives , connecting words never before used together , adding prefixes and suffixes , and diversing words wholly original.

The enclosed area was opened on the 23 rd April ,1988 as a bicentennial gift to the citizens of Wagga Wagga. The plaque was unveiled by David Gilbey and the Mayor of Wagga. The enclosed garden area includes a pond, pergola ,and well manicured lawns.
The cache is only available between 7.00 am and 5.00 pm daily as the garden region is locked nightly by groundstaff from both ends. The cache is small .Please do not reveal any of the hide within the logs.Enjoy one of Wagga's great little secrets. Please do not search the large hedge area as you do not have to enter any gardens or pull hedges apart.
