An easy drive by just north of Tennant Creek, accessable from outside the fence of the airport in easy reach and hopefully perfectly legal. You are looking for an 'Eclipse Mints' tin with magnetic attachment and log book [no writing instruments]
I have placed this as an excuse to present a small insight into the meaning of runway markers.
They consist of two numbers placed at each end of the runway and correspond to the first 2 digits of a compass heading if you were to be approaching for a landing.
Thus runway 07 has a compass reading of 070° (actually 69°) and conversely runway 25 has a compass reading of 250° (actually 249°)
This runway has a length of 6427' (1959 metres) and a width of 98' (30 metres) with an asphalt surface at a height of 1236' (377 metres) above sea level.
Now that is another interesting fact -- your altimiter on landing will read 1236' and not zero
With Google Earth, most airstrips of the world have a Google Community marker on them placed by a Karl_9999 with a few relevant facts about the airport including navigational Aids and control radio frequencies. Obviously these should not be used for navigational purposes.
Thus endeth the lesson
