This is stop number 5 in a series of caches along the Port Washington Road. This stop takes you to Berger cemetery near the town of Baltic.
Port Washington Road started out as a buffalo trail used by the Native Americans. It runs from Millersburg through Baltic to the town of Port Washington. It was used to move goods down to the Ohio-Erie canal in Port Washington. When the railroad arrived in MIllersburg and Baltic in 1852 the road became less usefull.
Port Washington Road was the first state road in Ohio, designated "Road Number 20" on February 6, 1832.
This is a "off the beaten path" tour of this part of Ohio. A lot of the roads are dirt\gravel and will be tough to drive on in the winter.
There are nice Historical Trail signs posted, in both directions, to follow along the road, see photo.
The cache is a micro hidden in Berger cemetery near Baltic. Daylight caching only and bring your own pen.
As of 7-2-2012 there is a beehive in the double trunked cedar tree at the same end of the cemetery as the cache is in.
WHATCH OUT FOR BEES!!
