Geocache Description:

Easy cache and dash or park at the road end for a pleasant walk. The disused airfield is out of bounds since the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001. The cache is NOT located on either the airfield nor British rail property.

Original contents: FTF Certificate, Angel of the North Geocoin, Our new 'Hogwarts Express' TB, Notebook, pens, pencils, and a few nik-naks.

Planes - Brunton airfield was constructed around 1941 and was used throughout World War 2, after its decommissioning it was used extensively for private light aircraft and parachute schools. A radar detachment from nearby RAF Boulmer is still visible including Radar. The Airfield was finally closed to the public during the 2001 Foot and Mouth outbreak - much to the dismay of many aspiring young drivers.

Trains - The main North East railway line runs North/South under the bridge, travelling 393 miles from Edinburgh to London. On a lucky day you may even see a steam engine travelling below.

Automobiles - Prior to 2001 Brunton Airfield was every young drivers dream piece of tarmac. Parents would take their children of all ages to 'learn' to drive - there were even bollards available for teaching reverse parking. The Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001 caused the gates to be locked and the 'fun' ended over night.

Brunton is still used for classic car and steam roller rallies at various times throughout the year.
