Döbritzer Kniegrotte
Die „Kniegrotte" ist eine im Dolomit des Mittleren Zechsteins gelegene Karsthöhle.
Unter Karst versteht man in der Geologie und Geomorphologie unterirdische und oberirdische Geländeformen in Karbonatgesteinen (zum Teil auch in Sulfat- und Salzgesteinen), die vorwiegend durch Lösungs- und Kohlensäureverwitterung sowie Ausfällung von biogenen Kalksteinen und ähnlichen Sedimenten mit hohen Gehalten an Calciumcarbonat (CaCO3) entstanden sind. Hauptmerkmal ist der überwiegend unterirdische Wasserhaushalt, der nicht auf einer primären Porosität des Gesteins beruht, sondern vielmehr sekundär durch den in geologischer Zeit stattfindenden Prozess der Verkarstung (d.h. Korrosion) bedingt wird.
Die Lage und die Nähe, der hier vorgefundenen Höhle, zu Wasserstellen machte sie für Jägergruppen interessant, die sich hier niederließen. Die Nutzung der Höhle ist bis ins Mittelalter belegt. In den 30er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde die Höhle samt ihres Vorplatzaereals erforscht. Es wurden Feuerstellen, ein Pflaster aus Schieferplatten, baltische Feuersteine sowie andere Rohmaterialien entdeckt. Zahlreiche Artefakte aus den Rohstoffen Geweih, Elfenbein und Knochen wurden gefunden. Das Hauptrohmaterial war mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit Rengeweih. Die Knochen und das Rengeweih wurden in der Kniegrotte verarbeitet, das Elfenbein hingegen war als fertiges Objekt vorzufinden. Die "Kniegrotte" wurde durch Funde von Schmuck- und Kunstgegenständen berühmt. Sie wird durch die intensive Feuernutzung, der Grundform- und Geräteherstellung sowie der Kunstobjekte als Basislager gekennzeichnet.

The "Kniegrotte" is one in the Dolomit of the middle Zechstein situated two-pronged mattock cave.
Karst is understood in the geology and geomorphology as underground and surface terrain formations in carbonate rocks (sometimes also in sulphate and rock salt). Mainly formed by washout and carbonic acid weathering and precipitation of biogenic limestone and similar sediments containing high levels of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The main characteristic is the predominantly underground hydrology, which is not based on a primary porosity of the rock, rather by the secondary, taking place in geological time process of karstification (corrosion is caused).
The situation and the nearness, the cave found here, to watering places made them for hunter's groups interesting which sat down here. The use of the cave is booked till the Middle Ages. In the 30s of the 20th century the cave was investigated with her ground. Fireplaces, a place from slate records, Baltic flints as well as other raw materials were discovered. Numerous artefacts from the raw materials antlers, ivory and bone were found. The main raw material was in all probability Rengeweih. The bones and the Rengeweih were processed in the "Kniegrotte", however, the ivory was to be found as a ready object. The "Kniegrotte" became famous by findings of ornaments and objects of art. It is marked by the intensive fire use, of the basic form and devices production as well as the art objects as a base camp.
