Geocache Description:

Congratulations to Lasermom and Handyman for being FTF on 5-16-10!

This is not a traditional Spirit Quest cache. It is a Letterbox Hybrid. The cache IS located at the coordinates listed above, and you do NOT have to solve and use the clue to find the cache. However, for more of a challenge and the feel of letterboxing, solve and use the clue below to find the cache. The clue to finding this cache is a name. To solve for the name, you will be directed around the cemetery to six monuments. You will have to use letters from the last names on those monuments (in the correct order) to spell the name in the clue. You will then have to find the monument with that name on it and follow the instructions from there to the cache. Sound easy? The monuments used in solving the clue were not chosen for any particular reason, other than you have to walk pretty much the entire cemetery to find them. So, enjoy the walk! This cemetery is a beautiful and interesting place. It has a mix of old and new monuments, from the early to mid-1800's to the present day. Quite a few noteable and historical people of Knoxville and Knox County are buried here.

--Instructions For Solving The Clue--

Take Market Street north to the cemetery and turn east on Drive 9. Follow Drive 9 until you come to a cannon. Suggested parking is on the crossover behind the cannon. Do not park on Drive 9 itself. Parking on the crossover allows others to pass. Stand at the rearof the cannon and face north. You should be in line with a row of monuments. Walk down this row (approx. 28 steps) and find the monument of Alma and Edgar. The first letter of their last name is the last letter in the clue. From there, face slightly northeast. Walk in this direction (approx. 20 steps) and find the monument of Doris and Norman. The last letter of their last name is the third letter in the clue. From there, face north. Walk in this direction (approx. 90 steps) to just past and left of the maintenance shed. Find the monument of Darlene and Joseph. The second letter of their last name is the fifth letter in the clue. From there, face west. Walk in this direction (approx. 100 steps) and find the monument with the picture of the goose carved into it. The third letter of the last name on the monument is the fourth letter in the clue. From there, face northeast. Walk in this direction (approx. 82 steps) and find the monument of A. Marie and D. Rex. The third letter of their last name is the second letter in the clue. From there, face north. Walk in this direction (approx. 130 steps) and find the monument of Sarah and Samuel. The fourth letter of their last name is the first letter in the clue. You should now have all six letters in the clue and in the correct order. It should spell an unusual name. It’s Dutch in origin. We didn't want to make it too easy! Standing just left of the last monument, face northeast. Walk in this direction (approx. 143 steps) and find the monument with the same name on it as the clue. When you have found it, stand facing it. Turn 180 degrees and walk up two rows. Stop and turn 90 degrees to the right. What do you see across the road? The cache is hidden there! We hope you enjoy searching for and finding this cache as much as we enjoyed figuring it all out and placing it. This cache contains a log book, a pen, a few trade items and a Travel Bug. Since it is a Letterbox Hybrid, it also contains a rubber stamp and an ink pad. Please leave the stamp and ink pad in the cache as they are not trade items. They are what the letterboxers use to log their find! Cemetery hours are from dawn to dusk. Please be respectful of the cemetery, it’s rules and those who visit here. And, as always, please be kind to the environment. Note--one step is approximately 2 feet.

Good Luck!
