The Table rock Mt's are a unique mountain range in the Rogue valley. Both Table rock Mt's have a flat plateau thus the name Table rock. According to scientific studies the Table rock Mt's were formed by lava flows over 50 million years ago. The Payne cliffs formations and sediments with other minerals from ancient rivers carved there way through the valley forming the Table rock Mt's. and shaping our valley.
About 10 million years ago a volcano erupted and a lava flow about 45 miles long spread through the valley shaping our landscape and carved the valley floor. This caused the land to rise to the height of the table rock Mt's.Over the next several million years and ancient river we know as the Rogue river carved its way through and with erosion and along with the ocean the hard mineral Andesite was washed away approx 85 to 95% leaving us with the Table rocks.
Millions of years of landscaping mother nature style through volcanic and oceanic and erosion we now have our beautiful Table rock Mt's.
In the months of March through June over 70 different species of wild flowers grow on the plateau of the mountain. Lower Table rock Mt once had a make shift landing strip for small aircraft.

1- At the trails end at the top of lower table rock there is an informational sign measure the length and width on this same sign. Next there is only one species of wild flower that only grows here and nowhere else on earth what is the name of this flower?
