Fight! Man Vs. Lion Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

sparten85: A note to everyone who has been to my GC in the past two years,
Thank you for making the time to visit my GC and filling the box with trinkets and filling in the log. Unfortunately the GC is missing in action (mia) and after spending half an hour in the area yesterday, looking around to see if it had been thrown some where I am very sad to say Man Vs Lion is no more. This is very sad news and I'm archiving this cache. The location was good but with the cache MIA I don't think it wise to replace it.
This was my first hide and I thought it would last forever... May do a new one soon, after I find a new hide location and buy suitable box and log book.
TFTC!

Geocache Description:

The cache is found at the base of a tree on the southern boarder of the estate. If your at the gates at the south you will see a statue of a man fighting a lion, which I dedicate this cache to. Head due west, along the boundary of the park, to find the cache. When you get close to the coordinates you're looking for a small lock lock box hidden in a hole at the base of a tree. (Watch out for muggles, it can be busy at times)

Elvaston Castle is found four miles south-east of the city of Derby and is a picturesque site featuring over 200 acres of woodlands, parkland and formal gardens for everyone to explore and enjoy.

The estate is located off Borrowash Road (B5010) in Elvaston, 4 miles south-west of Derby. The park is well signposted off both the A6 and A52. From the M1 north bound take the A50 exit followed by the A6 Alvaston turn off, then follow the brown tourist signs.

The park has opening times, which only effects those travelling by car, note there is a small charge for using the castle car park, please check (visit link) for the most up to date information regarding opening times and charges.

There has been a house here since the early 1600's and what stands there now is a Gothic Revival masterpiece designed by James Wyatt in the early 1800s, which includes part of the original house dating back to 1633. This was the home of the 3rd Earl of Harrington which then became home to the Stanhope family until the estate was sold by the then Earl of Harrington to Derbyshire County Council in 1968. The Council have operated it as Elvaston Castle Country Park since then.
