Geocache Description:

History of the Balmoral Rail

It was really the coming of the railway that made the first major change since Cobb & Co. A proposal for a line was sought about 1889 but nothing eventuated for many years.

A short line linking Horsham and Noradjuha had been built in 1887 and extended to Toolondo opening in 1912 and also work was started on a line from Hamilton to Cavendish

It was not until 19th November 1920 that the line was completed right through. Grain trains started using the line in 1921 and passenger traffic ceased operation in 1955.

According to VR time line the line was closed down on July !st 1979.

Hence the cache name Railways of the Past Here is a cache placed along the old rail line which will be an easy find and is my second cache. In the container are usual swaps and a scratchie for the first to find.

Have fun finding the cache and, take the time to think back to the good old steam trains that used to travel this line
