[EN] The Dobele Evangelic Lutheran Church
Is located by the Marketplace.

The Dobele Church was built in 1495 under Master Walter von Plettenberg. The church has been recurrently rebuilt. The steeple got its present look in 1907. A year later, in 1908, an assembler arrived from Berlin and installed a clock from Germany.
There is a motto inscribed on the bell:”Awaken. Encourage. Comfort.” Pastor Janis Straumanis upon consecration of the church bell wished :” Let the bell awaken without cessation the residents of Dobele from their sin sleep, encourage them to return to God, and comfort the sorrowful and the incompatible.”
There are unique art monuments in the church : the altar painting “Golgotha” by H.Kiepert (1864); an epitaph (turn of 16th/17th c) dedicated to Philip Drahenfels; Anna Dorothea Tisenhausen`s grave plaque (1648); a memorial plaque to parish members killed in World War 1 and in the Latvian Liberation Battles (1925).
In 1995, upon seeing in the 500th anniversary of the sgurch, new roofing was applied and the outer walls of the church were painted.
