Geocache Description:

35m film pot cache situated on the edge of local wood known as "Kirkies Woods"

Limited Parking at N57 40.702 W002 41.697 (end of Soy Avenue) or at the bottom of Soyburn Gardens.
A short stroll from the parking spot on a flat footpath (grass and small stones) parallel to the Soy Burn leads you to Kirkies woods. This is a popular place with kids and adults alike during the summer, great for walking dogs. The way can get a little boggie in wet weather though.

The footpath branches at the cache site and you can either take the woodland walk or carry on along the railway path towards Fordyce or take footpath along what used to be the old railway line that takes you back towards the parking spot.

The footpath itself is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs when dry but the cache site is a little way off the path and would be difficult for wheelchair access. If a wander through the woods is your plan then dont take buggies as the going is a little rougher.

The woods used to have a Kirk (Church) in them, hence the name, but sadly was burned to the ground by the Duke of Cumberland on his way to Culloden.

"on the 11th April 1746 the Duke of Cumberland marched to Culloden, and at Portsoy he was joined by the remainder of his army, which had been stationed at Old Meldrum and Strathbogie. The army being too numerous to obtain quarters in the town, the foot encamped for the night on some ploughed fields in the neighbourhood.

In their passage through Banff, the soldiers also "destroyed the fine episcopal chapel, cutting down the roof, burning the seats, books, pulpit and altar, and breaking the organ in pieces." Other places of worship in the county suffered a similar fate. "
