A cache set amongst lovely wooded hills. A great hike at any time of the year. Located on a well established public footpath, this cache can be approached from a number of directions as part of a planned walk. Great for family outings, with the dog or as part of an off-road cycle trip. One hill involved but could be up or down depending on where you are starting from.
This cache is just off Pack and Prime Lane, an ancient road that was used as a drive to cut off the bend in the River Thames around Reading in the days when there were no locks to enable goods to be carried by boat. The odd name of the lane is reputed to originate from the need to ‘pack and prime’ guns because of excessive highway robbery along it. Pack and Prime Lane also forms a parish boundary line, evidenced by the occasional metal boundary markers. The cache can be approached from the town of Henley on Thames (with its many regatta sights, pubs and restaurants), from the village of Rotherfield Greys (The Maltsters Arms makes a great resting point) or from Greys Green. and an Explorer map will show the many footpaths that criss-cross this area, including a new footpath created by the Henley Town Council that comes off the Two Tree Path.
Pack & Prime Lane goes through a wonderful wood and is a great place to take dogs - but keep an eye out for livestock in nearby fields. Finding the cache requires minimal searching. Please return it to its original hiding place once found.
