Geocache Description:

Welcome to the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity (2011-2020 International Decade for Biodiversity) Geocache! This cache has been placed to minimize trampling, compaction and invasive species impacts. Please stay on the trails!

Grindstone Creek/Hendrie Valley has been described as one of the top botanical sites in Halton, due to its high number of native plants, dragon- and damselflies, reptiles, amphibians, and birds, including a number of nationally, provincially, and locally rare species.

The shallow marsh waters are home to a wide variety of birds and other forms of wildlife, including an array of native fish that spawn in a protected area of this wetland.

Unlike most urban waterfront natural areas, the Grindstone Creek Valley provides a continuous forested linkage from Hamilton Harbour to the Niagara Escarpment. This area is an important component of the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System, and provides habitat for significant plants and interior forest species. It may also serve as a corridor for species moving between natural areas.
