An easy to get cache with close by parking.
This cache is placed in honour of a special geocacher, audaciousduo (now BC Bees), of Duncan BC, who audaciously suggested that I take up geocaching. Although I had heard of it, I was not too keen on getting involved, since to me, it seemed kind of geeky. That did not deter her and she even sent me a map of geocaches hidden in my neighbourhood. She also suggested that I could use the name KinderKen, since I had so many Kinder Surprise toys and containers.
One of the caches was hidden in an off leash dog park where I take Samantha dog every day so that she can wrestle and chase and be chased by other dogs. I had an old Garmin GPS II Plus unit that I had purchased in 2000 for work but I did not even know where it was stashed in my house. So I had a look on the map and determined the approximate location of the cache and the next day at the park, I searched for and found the hidden cache. I did not know what to do, so I signed KinderKen and wrote the date on the log. I thought to myself, “That was fun”. I went home, signed up, logged the find, found my old Garmin and used it for a few finds over the next few days and then on my 4th day, I purchased a new Garmin Oregon 300 because I was hooked.
Geocaching has added so much to my life. The good exercise, the mental challenges, finding new and interesting places and parks that I did not even know existed and seeing all of the new neighbourhoods in Calgary, becoming re-acquainted with surrounding towns and the added fun in traveling and the great people that I have met and the tremendous satisfaction from solving a tough puzzle or finding a very well hidden geocache. Since then, most of my family have also become geocachers and consequently we are all closer as a family and we owe it all to Sheri, my very audacious daughter and mom to Big B and little b.
The cache is a decon container hidden in a tree (where else). Have fun and if you are new to this geocaching thing, I hope that you get as much enjoyment out of it as I do and thank you Sheri for this gift that you gave me.
Congratulations to GeoWyrm for the FTF.
