Hey all you crazy cats and groovy chicks, welcome to The Ugly
Bug’s Bungalow! Out of all of the caches in Adell Durbin
Park, this one is guaranteed to be the only one placed by a guy
with both the words “ugly” and “bug” in his
user name! (It’s a funny story, ask me about it
sometime.)
Ample parking is available in the main lot off of Darrow Road
(Route 91), but my realtor sold me on the “relatively
secluded aspects of this fine property”, so you’ll have
to walk a bit to get the cache – just follow the Yellow Trail
and you’ll be fine for most of the way. The Red Trail
actually meets up with the Yellow Trail at one point
(wouldn’t that make it the Orange Trail?), so you could
probably go that way too. Even when you leave the marked trails,
there are unmarked paths that will lead you close by, so minimal
bushwhacking should be required. However, the woods are fairly open
so it might be kind of fun to just get your reading and head right
to it – I’ll leave that up to you!
If you aren’t familiar with this park, they do a wonderful
job with nature education, so definitely bring the little cachers
along for the hike. There are informational signs along the trails
as well as a wide variety of trees that are identified with metal
plaques. Wildlife is also plentiful in the area. While I was moving
in my foosball table, I saw eight deer, countless chipmunks and
even a woodpecker in the vicinity – talk about wild
neighbors!
The cache is initially stocked with fun stuff for all children,
so they will be rewarded for the journey! Also among the original
contents of the cache is The Fortune Cookie Travel Bug , because
what’s a bachelor pad without Chinese take-out?
As always, please try to place the cache back as you found it,
including any cammo that may be needed.
There are several other caches in this park, so make sure to
check them out too!
Park rules are posted on the large sign visible from the parking
lot, please respect them.
